Today, I was at knitting club. I am the youngest member at only 17 yrs. When an 80-yr-old asked me about my grandma, I started crying telling her how my grandma never loved me. She smiled at me and said, “I’ve never had grandkids, can I be your honorary grandma?” The next day she brought me cookies because that’s what my grandma should do. GMH

Yesterday, I missed the bus to school, so my Muslim Afghani mother dropped me off with her headscarf on. I was scared about what the other kids would think when they saw her, but instead they bombarded me with questions about Islam and seemed fascinated to learn about another culture/religion. Just today, I found out the real reason of my parents’ death when I was 10. When our car lost its brakes and was going to crash into another, they tried to protect me to the last minute. Their bodies were found, covering me while I was unconscious. Their never ending love truly GMH.
